Extensive damage has been caused to dry stone walls belonging to two Earby landowners.

About 40 yards of dry stone walling was knocked down outside the house of Martin Sharp, of Cowgarth Lane, and 20 yards of walling was damaged on land owned by farmer John Morgan, of Stoney Bank Road.

Mr Sharp noticed the damage last week and was victimised again on Monday night, while Mr Morgan said he noticed the damage had occurred over three consecutive nights starting on Saturday.

Repairing the damage to the walls is expected to cost both men hundreds of pounds.

West Craven police are investigating the incidents, which have been condemned by a local councillor.

Earby town councillor Vera Cocker said: “Not only is it very expensive to have these dry stone walls rebuilt, but it is endangering the lives of stock who can leave the fields and wander onto the roads. This kind of damage has been going on in smaller patches for a long time, but nothing as bad as this.”
