Inspired pupils at High Bentham Primary School are getting set to commemorate the London 2012 Olympics.

The Olympic organising committee has accepted the school into its national Get Set Network in recognition of its commitment to the Olympic and Paralympic values of friendship, excellence, respect, inspiration, courage, determination and equality.

The network aims to get pupils across the country involved in the Olympics, inspiring them to show determination and perseverance in all areas of their lives – not just sport.

Later this year the Get Set Network schools will be allocated a limited number of tickets to the Games, which will be awarded to pupils who best embody the Olympic values.

The school was accepted as a network member for its commitment to ensuring youngsters achieved their personal best across the curriculum and its ability to create strong teams which work together for the good of their pupils.

Teacher Sue Marshall said the school wanted to join the Get Set Network to share in the excitement of the 2012 Games. As network members, pupils would be involved in a range of initiatives designed to inspire and challenge their thinking and to encourage them to strive towards their personal best.

Mrs Marshall said: “For some of our children, this success might be academic, for others could be sport, for others it is could be by being a brilliant friend and for others it is appearing on stage. In recent years, many of our pupils have amazed themselves, their teachers and families by finding an undiscovered talent on stage in our whole-school musicals.

“These shows, involving a united team of parents, friends and staff, have inspired shy children to perform solos, to dance and to act – no mean feat! “
