A Coroner has been told detectives have made no arrests over the savage murder of a Bradford dad.

Five weeks after family man Amjad Hussain was brutally attacked which led to him dying of horrific neck injuries, police are still hunting those responsible.

Despite a direct plea for help to the Asian community, “not much” information had come forward, said Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor, of the Homicide Major Enquiry Team at West Yorkshire Police.

But he stressed the investigation was moving forward and specialist helplines had been set up by police speaking Pakistani dialects at the beginning of the inquiry.

Det Supt Taylor was speaking after an inquest opened in Bradford yesterday into the 31-year-old’s death.

He said more information was needed from the community, but he believes he knows why Mr Hussain died.

“Some information has come from the public, but we need more. Ring us,” said Det Supt Taylor.

During the inquest he told acting Bradford Coroner Professor Paul Marks no arrests or charges had been made in connection to the murder, but now two post-mortem examinations had been carried out police no longer needed Mr Hussain’s body and it could be released for a funeral.

He told the inquest a murder inquiry had been mounted because of “circumstances” after a paramedic called to Mr Hussain’s home in Rylstone Gardens, Undercliffe, pronounced him dead at 1.24pm on January 12.

Mr Hussain’s body had earlier been discovered by firefighters, alerted by neighbours to a blaze at the house.

Soon after the investigation began, Det Supt Taylor publicly appealed for information over the mysterious dealings of Mr Hussain away from the Four Seasons restaurant where he worked in Burley-in-Wharfedale. At the time he said it was believed those dealings could be the motive behind the “brutal and calculated” murder and that Mr Hussain’s neck injuries had probably been caused by a heavy bladed instrument.

He also said he had been satisfied the fire at the house was set by the murderers trying to cover their tracks and destroy evidence.

The inquest has been adjourned while police inquiries continue. Information can be given to police in confidence to Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
