A Bradford minicab driver accused of double murder told a jury the Lord knew he was innocent.

Sabir Hussain, under cross-examination from Tahir Khan for the Crown, said he would never have turned his back on his faithful wife and his children to involve himself in the crime.

“One day I am going to stand in front of the Lord, whose book I swore on, and he knows I have done nothing,” Hussain said at Bradford Crown Court yesterday.

Hussain, 40, a father-of-three, of Wensleydale Road, Thornbury, Bradford, pleads not guilty to murdering Ahmedin Khyel and Imran Khan on May 10 last year.

He is alleged to have helped fellow cab driver Mohammed Zubair to kill the men because Mr Khyel was having an affair with Zubair’s wife, Kainat Bibi.

Mohammed Iqbal Mazar, 29, of Athol Road, Heaton, Bradford, denies perverting the course of justice by assisting in the removal of bloodstains and bloodstained items from Zubair’s home in Heath Terrace, Barkerend, Bradford.

Zubair is alleged to have beaten Mr Khyel and Mr Khan with a claw hammer and dumped their bodies.

Hussain, accused of joining in the attack with a dumb-bell bar, said he never expected Zubair to use the hammer to inflict violence on the men.

He said his friend, who worked with him at Tyersal Private Hire, would threaten on a weekly basis to kill the radio operator at the taxi office, but no-one had known him to use any violence. “He used to talk like this,” Hussain said.

He said he prodded Mr Imran with the dumb-bell bar to stop him getting up off the sofa. Zubair had already hit Mr Khyel on the head and Hussain said he was worried he would do the same to Mr Imran if he moved.

Mr Khan alleged he knew Zubair was going to inflict serious injuries on the men with the hammer and he attacked Mr Imran with the bar. Mr Hussain denied this. The trial continues.
