A series of major events to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Frederick Delius has been announ-ced by The Delius Society, including a four-day Delius Celebration at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester and St George’s Hall, Bradford (October 17 to 20).

In addition to these major events supported by the Delius Society, many more concerts and recitals are scheduled to take place during 2012, most of which are listed on the Delius Society/Delius Trust website (delius.org.uk).

These include performances of a wide range of the composer’s works across the UK as well as in Germany, Switzerland, the United States and Canada, with many more expected to be announced over the coming months.

Delius Society chairman Martin Lee-Browne said: “For Delius enthusiasts throughout the world, 2012 will be a year to remember. Those of us who have been planning for the year have been delighted by the scale of the enthusiastic response.

“Frederick Delius was a true cosmopolitan and it is inspiring to see that there are to be performances of his works in places as far apart as Bradford, Koln and Chicago. We are particularly grateful to the Delius Trust, whose generous funding has enabled us to develop such a wide-ranging programme.”

Other special features of the year include: * A CD entitled Delius: Double Concerto; Violin Concerto; Cello Concerto – Tasmin Little, Paul Watkins.

* An EMI 18-CD box set of Delius works with an associated EMI-Delius website with timeline, interviews and musical examples.

* A new ‘Delius-inspired’ jazz work commissioned from Digby Fairweather.

* In support of any organisation wishing to promote Delius during 2012, the society is able to make available a complete list of the composer’s works with forces required, a Delius discography, biographical material, a Delius timeline and a list of artists available for performance opportunities during 2012, e-mail 2012@TheDeliusSociety.org.uk.
