A keen amateur footballer was subjected to a terrifying sex attack by a self-styled preacher who told him: “God is making me do this,” a jury was told.

The man said he was overpowered and forced to endure a violent ordeal at the hands of Brian Jackson, who tried to rape him and made him commit a sex act.

The man, now in his forties, said he was thrown around like “a rag doll” by Jackson who was built like a wrestler.

Jackson, 50, of Hall Lane, Windhill, Shipley, denies a catalogue of rapes, beatings and sexual assaults on five women and the man over three decades. He is accused of raping three women and sexually assaulting a woman with mental health problems.

Speaking at Bradford Crown Court on a video-link yesterday, the man said Jackson became infatuated with him when they shared a bedsit for a few weeks when he was in his late twenties.

He alleged Jackson recited a prayer and told him: “You’ll come to me. You’ll be one of mine. You’ll be my disciple.”

The man said Jackson frightened him when he barged into his room and exposed himself.

“He’s a big fellow. His eyes, like, bulge, bulldog like,” the man said.

He alleged the sex attack happened when Jackson got him by the neck and slammed him against the wall.

“I was just in shock and all the strength went out of me. My legs were like jelly,” he said.

He alleged Jackson tied his hands with washing line and opened a can of beer before resuming the attack. He said he picked him up by his waistband, ripping his jeans, and threw him against the wall.

Jackson was “like a caged animal” and he feared for his life, he told the jury.

The man said he was a Sunday League footballer in a happy relationship with his girlfriend. Afterwards, he became addicted to heroin and he and his girlfriend split up. He lost many friends and had been to prison.

“I was embarrassed because I felt weak,” he said. “I just feel as if ‘Why me?’ I feel as if I’ve let everyone down.”

He added: “At the end of the day, he was too strong and I was frightened of him.”

Other alleged victims of Jackson told the jury they lived in fear of beatings and sexual abuse.

Two said they were routinely raped after he lost his temper.

Jackson told the police the allegations were all untrue, although he may have given two of the women “a few slaps”.

He told officers he was “a preacher of the word of God.”

The trial continues.
