Jason Demetriou has urged Cougars fans to turn out in force this weekend as the club prepare to unveil their latest big-name signing.

The player, whose identity is being kept a closely-guarded secret, will be introduced to supporters at the club’s squad launch at Cougar Park on Saturday afternoon.

The T&A can reveal, however, that the man in question is yet another former Super League star, following in the footsteps of Michael Korkidas, Richie Barnett and Sam Obst.

With a host of other signings having also been ann-ounced since promotion back to the Championship was secured in October, Cougars are gearing up for a massive campaign in 2012.

Player-coach Demetriou said: “We have just signed another high-profile player with Super League and international experience.

“He is a winger/centre and he will be officially unveiled at the squad launch on Saturday night. It is a great chance for supporters to see the completed squad and see first hand who our last addition to the squad will be.

“We have managed to assemble the best Cougar team in over a decade and we have done it within the budget set out.

“A lot of things need to fall into place when signing players and, for some reason, the gods have smiled on us so far with our recruitment.”

Saturday's squad launch kicks off at 4pm and will run into the evening with a numbers of speeches and a question-and-answer session with players. Food will also be served.

Meanwhile, the Cougars’ friendlies are as follows: Halifax, away – Boxing Day, 12pm; York City Knights, away – January 8, 3pm; Batley, home – January 15, 2pm; Bradford Bulls, home – January 27, 7.30pm; Rochdale, home – February 5, 2pm.
