Anti-capitalist campaigners set up camp outside Bradford City Hall last night to join global protests against the excesses of the banks and the failure of Governments to prevent the financial crisis.

A handful of tents set up by activists began appearing in Centenary Square to join the Occupy Bradford movement, one of 900 protests world-wide, including protests in Wall Street, New York and in London.

They are planning to stay in Centenary Square indefinitely, despite plummeting overnight temperatures.

Ferdi, 40, a protester from Daisy Hill, said Occupy Bradford was a ‘broad umbrella’ with people from a cross section of society showing their support.

He was one of the first to set up camp with son Joshua, 12 and Zahra, 11.

"This is something they can learn from," he said. "Their generation is going to be affected by the £300bn being given to the banks.
