An elderly woman was taken to hospital after being rescued by firefighters from an old people’s home in Keighley early today.
Firefighters from Keighley and Haworth were called to a flat at Hillworth Lodge, a former Victorian workhouse in Oakworth Lane, and carried the woman to safety.
Police and the ambulance service also attended.
The woman, who is believed to be aged about 65, was suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.
She was given oxygen at the scene by firefighters before being taken by ambulance to Airedale General Hospital for treatment.
Keighley watch commander John Musto said her flat had been badly damaged in the blaze. The cause was being investigated.
