Plans to install solar panels at the base of a furniture recycling charity in Keighley could help the organisation generate an extra £50,000 in funding, according to the company behind the project.

Building services business NG Bailey has submitted a planning application to Bradford Council for 16 photovoltaic panels at Keighley Furniture Project in Oakworth Road as part of its charitable giving scheme.

The 20.4 metre square solar array would generate electricity which the charity would use to reduce its utility bills. Surplus electricity would be sold back to the National Grid for a profit through the Government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme, which guarantees payment rates for up to 25 years.

The charity’s CO2 emissions would also be reduced by almost one tonne every year.

If the plans are approved, the panels would be installed in four horizontal rows above the first-floor windows on the south side of the charity’s premises at Springfield Mill.
