The bloody history of Bible translation and publication was explored in a lecture at Bradford Cathedral by broadcaster and author Lord Melvyn Bragg.
He spoke to an audience of about 100 guests, including Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire Dr Ingrid Roscoe, today.
He was there as part of a series of events, called Illumination, which has been running at the Cathedral since April to mark the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible.
It was his first time at the “wonderful” Cathedral, he said, although he had been to Saltaire on a few occasions.
Lord Bragg spoke about the 300-year struggle to get the Bible translated into the English language and its impact, a subject on which he has written a book, which was published earlier this year.
