A total of 47 names have so far been collected to be inscribed on a new war memorial to be installed by the cenotaph in Bradford.

It will honour servicemen and women from the district who have been killed in conflicts since the Second World War.

Bradford Council has been working with the Royal British Legion to collate names for inclusion and on the format and design of the memorial.

Anyone who wants to put forward a name still has the opportunity to do so.

Council special projects officer Danny Smith said: “Research is progressing well on the collection of names for the new city war memorial.

“We’ve worked with the Royal British Legion and collected 47 names of service personnel from Bradford who died in active service since World War II.

“We have been in touch with a number of organisations to find new names and we’d welcome any further suggestions.

“We are continuing to discuss with the Royal British Legion about the format of the memorial and early design options.” Anyone wanting to put forward a name should contact Mr Smith on (01274) 431988 or e-mail danny.smith@bradford.gov.uk.
