A roof nicknamed the ‘rollercoaster’ is going up at the new £26.5 million Appleton Academy in Wyke, Bradford.
In excess of 800 tonnes of steel structure is now in place at the site, off High Fernley Road, and construction workers are on target to have the new buildings ready for opening in October 2012.
The new roof curves up, round and down the almost circular building, which was designed to be curved specially so all its classrooms have views out over the surrounding valley.
The roof at the front is just one-storey high but at the back it is four storeys.
