Construction on the six-acre £24.4 million park being created by Bradford Council has reached an important milestone.
The last of more than 277,000 granite setts within the City Park’s mirror pool has been laid. Lord Mayor of Bradford, Naveeda Ikram, donned a hard hat, hi-visibility vest and Mayoral chains to lay the last stones.
Councillor Ikram said: “City Park should become a great asset for Bradford and it was wonderful to be able to play even a small part in its construction.
“Coming on to the site gave a whole new perspective of the scale of the project and the workmanship involved. I look forward to seeing the pool filled and the fountains spraying for the first time.
“It’s very exciting to think of the potential it gives Bradford as a visitor destination and what benefits that will bring for the local economy.”
The pool measures about 4,000 square metres and will be 22cm at its deepest point, sloping up gradually to the edge. Each one of the granite setts has been laid by hand with four different shades of grey chosen and a finish which reduces the risk of slipping on the wet rock.
