A pedestrian was taken to hospital suffering from a head injury after a ‘hit and run’ incident in Keighley Town Centre.

The man, who was believed to be in his 60s, was involved in a collision with a car in Cavendish Street shortly after 10am yesterday.

A spokesman for Airedale and North Bradford Police said a red Peugeot 206, believed to have been involved in the incident, had been recovered near to the scene and the driver had been reported for summons to the courts for failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving without insurance.

The spokesman said: “We were called out to deal with a collision between a car and a man – the man had suffered a head injury and was taken to Airedale General Hospital for treatment. His injury is not believed to be life threatening.

“Officers have located the car believed to have been involved in the incident.”

Cavendish Street was closed yesterday morning while officers conducted their investigations.

A central section of the street was completely sealed off by police tape and a set of bollards was missing from a traffic island.

Shopper Daniel Eyles said he had seen an elderly-looking man being helped at the scene by police and paramedic.

“He looked very shaken, as you’d expect, but he was conscious and talking,” he said. “The police were speaking to another man there, but I couldn’t tell if he was the driver or just a witness.”

The owner of a nearby shop, who declined to be named, said: “I missed the moment of the accident.

“However, I saw an older man who was injured and the police arriving really soon afterwards. They got here extremely quickly.

“This road is always so busy during the day and I’ve seen quite a few near misses this year alone.”
