Police have re-opened a major Bradford road which remained closed for more than 16 hours after a fire wrecked a disused mill in the city centre.
Officers re-opened Thornton Road at about 10.50am today [Wednesday], although cordons remain in the area surrounding its junction with Tetley Street as police, along with fire investigators, work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the blaze.
Fire crews were continuing to damp down this morning and a structural engineer was due to visit the scene after the building was left potentially unsafe.
Up to 80 firefighters tackled the fire off Thornton Road, near to its junction with Tetley Street, which broke out during Tuesday's rush hour at the disused mill.
Details of the mill’s place in Bradford’s history are starting to emerge and will be included in an article in tomorrow’s Telegraph & Argus.
