Green-fingered gardeners from across the district were last night celebrating their success in one the county’s biggest competitions.
And none more so than volunteers in Addingham who won the best small town category at the 2011 Yorkshire in Bloom awards.
For the first time in five years the town scooped a gold medal and the top prize for their efforts, organised by the Addingham Garden Friends group.
Other category winners from the district included Abbeydale Retirement Home in Ilkley for best public, private or charitable establishment and Lumb Beck Farmhouse, in Ilkley, in the guest houses, holiday cottage and small hotels category.
Mount Pleasant boarding kennels and cattery in Keighley won the best small business premises title.
At total of 261 entrants took part in the regional contest – part of the Royal Horticultural Society’s (RHS) Britain in Bloom.
