An man was today appearing before magistrates charged in connection with the death of a 67-year-old man.

Melvin Baldwin died on Friday after allegedly being attacked by four men at his home in Shipley Fields days earlier.

Mr Baldwin is thought to have suffered a head injury during the incident. A post-mortem examination has suggested the 67-year-old died as a result of the injury.

The investigation is being led by West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Inquiry Team which wants witnesses to the incident which happened on Thursday, September 7 at 1.50pm.

Mr Baldwin lived in a block of red brick flats in Valley Road, where entrance to the building is restricted and entry can only be gained if buzzed in by a resident.

Detective Superintendent Paul Kennedy, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have information about this incident to come forward.

"An incident room has been set up an officers are available to take your call."

Police today charged a 29-year-old man from Keighley with manslaughter. He was to appear before magistrates in Bingley. A 19-year-old man has also been arrested and is being questioned.

Detectives are still searching for other men in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said one suspect was a white male, in his mid to late 20s, 6ft tall, of average to stocky build, with straight brown hair and pale complexion.

A second man is white, in his mid to late 20s, about 5ft 10in tall, of slim to average build, with dark brown, almost black wavy hair.

He has a pale, thin face with facial hair around his mouth and chin.

The spokesman said the trio escaped the scene of the robbery in a white scruffy Renault Laguna displaying a large exhaust tail pipe.
