Airedale General Hospital has been named as one of the country’s top 40 hospitals in an independent survey.

Bosses at the Steeton hospital have expressed their delight at receiving the award from CHKS, which provides healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services to the NHS and independent healthcare sector.

The CHKS ‘top hospitals’ programme rewards hospitals based on factors such as clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

Bridget Fletcher, chief executive of Airedale Hospital, said: “We are delighted to be named as one of the 40 best-performing hospitals in the UK, especially as we have been judged against criteria that we feel is equally important to both our staff and patients.”

James Coles, director of research at CHKS, which is part of the Capita Group, said: “These awards recognise outstanding performance in the areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care.”

Other Yorkshire hospitals named in the top 40 include Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust and York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
