Campaigners are calling for an urgent safety overhaul at an accident blackspot after a motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

Baildon residents, councillors and Shipley MP Philip Davies had been discussing what could be done to improve safety at the “dangerous” junction of Coach Road and Otley Road just days before the 25-year-old rider was involved in a crash with a car.

The man remained in hospital in a “serious but stable” condition last night.

Police have made a fresh appeal for witnesses to the accident, which involved the man’s Suzuki motorbike and a silver Volkswagen Golf at 4.55pm on Tuesday. They should call PC Mark Maiden on (01274) 475219.

Campaigner Ian Lyons, of Baildon, said: “I went to my local councillor’s surgery and have contacted the MP to try to get something done about this dangerous junction. Over the past ten years, the Council has been trying to put together some proposals but, basically, they have not got their act together.

“What are they going to tell the family when someone dies at the accident blackspot? You would have thought they would have been able to deal with this as a priority. It is such a busy and dangerous junction and any accidents there cause absolute chaos.”
