A volunteer who works tirelessly to help others at a Bradford community centre is among nominees in an awards scheme run by the Telegraph & Argus.

Graham Ball, vice-chairman of Lower Grange Community Association, helps ensure Lower Grange Community Centre is a focal point for residents, helping them build a better quality of life for themselves.

Earlier this year the 57-year-old, who has volunteered at the centre for four and a half years, ran a community day of action in Lower Grange Square, which saw more than 50 volunteers repaint railings, pick up litter, remove graffiti and install hanging baskets and flowerbeds.

He also regularly helps with table-top sales and fundraising events.

Alex Dilger, community development worker for social landlord Incommunities, who nominated Mr Ball in the volunteer section of the Community Stars awards, said: “Graham has gained a lot of respect from residents and professionals alike through his volunteering in the Lower Grange community. He is a role model for other people to look up to, and this is of immense importance in the work that he is currently delivering.

“I believe Graham is a keen, conscientious, hard-working individual who always gives 110 per cent, showing his personality, commitment and enthusiasm. Graham is an absolute gem of a character and deserves recognition for his much-appreciated contribution to community work.”

The awards, run jointly by the T&A and Bradford Council, aim to give the district’s hard-working volunteers the thanks they deserve.

The winners will be invited to a ceremony in City Hall where they will be presented with a Bradford Medal. To nominate someone, submit the form on the right by Monday, September 5.
