Court action is being sought by Bradford Council to remove two groups of travellers from illegal encampments in the city.

Vehicles and caravans have moved on to a pay and display car park in Burnett Street, Little Germany, and on Odsal village green, off Stadium Road, Odsal.

John Major, the Council’s assistant director for environmental health, said: “We are aware that a family of gipsies has moved on to playing fields at Odsal and are seeking court action to get them to move on as soon as possible.

“There is one other group of gipsies illegally camped in the Bradford district at present and they are in Burnett Street and will be moved on when we have permission from the court.”

Councillor David Warburton (Lab, Wyke) said the land in Odsal was owned by the Council.

He said 16 caravans plus vehicles moved on to the field after a fence was broken and a small tree was uprooted.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman confirmed investigations were taking place into reports of criminal damage to a fence at the site at about 2pm on Tuesday.

Anyone with information has been asked to call police on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111.
