A line-up of cutting-edge bands is expected to attract scores of music lovers to the North Yorkshire dales for the inaugural Beacons Festival.

Jamie XX, of one of the country’s biggest bands of the past few years The XX, and Mercury Prize-nominated British rapper Ghostpoet will be among the line-up for the festival at Heslaker Farm, Skipton, from Thursday, August 11, to Sunday, August 14.

The audience will also be treated to acts including the multi-talented Tom Vek, who will be headlining on Sunday, emerging artists Jamie Woon and Willy Mason, who made waves in the UK with his early single Oxygen.

One of the organisers Ash Kollakowski, of promoters The Iron Wagon, said the festival had a capacity of 3,500 and was being held to replace Moorfest.

Mr Kollakowski, 36, said: “We came along to help the festival out and we wanted to bring in some bigger names, so in order to do that, without taking away what Moorfest had already started, we wanted to start a new festival and rebuild it as Beacons, so it looks like a new festival.

“The organisers of Moorfest are still involved.

“The main stage is about new music, about quite forward-thinking progressive music. There’s no heritage actions, it’s all about new stuff.”

A diverse range of music will be heard throughout the weekend, ranging from the Manchester-based DJ Mr Scruff to Saltaire duo That F***ing Tank.

Other attractions will include a 24-hour tent featuring art, yoga, music and cinema, created by Sheffield’s Docfest, and a range of food and drink stalls, featuring many local companies such as brewery Copper Dragon.

Mr Kollakowski said: “We want to have a good time, establish the name, make sure the bands and the people there have a great time and everyone comes back next year.

“It’s just going to be quite exciting for the region, to have all these acts in North Yorkshire, without having to pay £180 for a festival. It will be good value for money.

Weekend tickets are available at £69. For more information, visit greetingsfrombeacons.com.
