A Bradford recreation ground could soon have a new sports pitch under plans which would give an estate’s junior football team a new home.
It is the second phase of a major revamp of the formerly-derelict site in Scholemoor, which used to house a sports centre with a synthetic pitch.
Matthew Milnes has been working on the redevelopment of the site for the past decade, and helped set up Scholemoor Beacon, a community organisation.
Together the group sourced nearly £500,000 of funding from various sources, which has seen a flood-lit multi-use games area, a children’s play area and adventure play facilities springing up on site.
Mr Milnes said: “When the sports centre was closed down and then demolished we were left with a huge piece of derelict land in the middle of the housing estate.
He added: “If all goes well we hope to start work on the pitch later this year so that it can be played on come next spring. This is the final phase of the outdoor plans.”
Now fresh plans have been submitted for a turfed sports pitch and outdoor fitness trail. It is hoped that Scholemoor Juniors will be able to make the pitch their permanent home.
