Children’s bedrooms in a Bradford family’s home have been given a makeover for a television programme rescuing victims of shoddy builders.

In the new series of Channel 5’s Cowboy Builders, presenters Dominic Littlewood and Melinda Messenger help a couple who hoped to build an extension, which would provide a bedroom for each of their children.

The programme claims the couple spent £30,000 for a father-and-son building team to do the job.

Instead, the show reveals that they were left with a range of problems – including an extension without a roof, exposed live electrics and a number of inadequate steel beams. The parents and two daughters were forced to camp in the lounge, while their two sons shared a freezing, damp-ridden bedroom.

Viewers will see Mr Littlewood on a mission to find out how a “supposedly experienced builder, with three decades of building”, could make such errors.

Before long, the presenter uncovers a string of unhappy customers, a lack of paperwork, and concern about work and behaviour on site.

Meanwhile, Miss Messenger is busy with the huge building project at the house. Hampered by problems she uncovers, she appeals to the community to help the family and is inundated with offers – including one from Bradford Bulls.

Tradesmen and suppliers from Bradford and around the region were used to help out in the programme, putting right the problems and installing quality products and finishes.
