A public inquiry could be held over plans to ban horseriders and cyclists from a well-used bridleway in Cullingworth by downgrading it to a footpath.

The Government’s planning inspector has ordered Bradford Council to grant an application to reclassify Bingley Bridleway 140 so the only public right to use the route would be for people on foot.

The Council originally rejected an application made by landowner J Robert Thompson in 2001 to alter the status of the right of way. The decision was later overturned on appeal after the planning inspector ruled there was not enough evidence to prove the route should be anything more than a footpath.
