A terminally-ill woman has lost her fight against cancer just weeks after her wedding.

Barbara Hunter died in Manorlands, the Oxenhope hospice, aged 50, just over two weeks after she was married to long-term partner Eric Hunter.

Mr Hunter was at his wife's bedside along with her 28-year-old son Gavin Edmonson, his pregnant girlfriend Jessica Hanley, Mrs Hunter's brother Allen Mazey and sisters Sandra Jones and Pauline Spencer, when she died on Monday.

The couple, who had shared a home in Church Street, Bingley, for about eight years were married last month after Eric proposed following a charity night, arranged by his partner, which raised £5,000 for Manorlands.

Mr Hunter, 53, said: "Barbara was very brave and strong-willed and loving and caring. She was wonderful and an inspiration to us all. We will all miss her."

Mrs Hunter did not live to see the birth of her second grandchild, who is due any day now, but she had chance to say goodbye to her three-year-old grandson, Nathan.

Her 41-year-old sister Sandra Jones, said: "Barbara worshipped Nathan. The last time we saw her smile was the day before she died when we took him in to see her.

"We held him over her to kiss her and she smiled and kissed him - it was a big proper smile."

Mrs Jones, of Mornington Road, Bingley, added: "Her family meant everything to her - she was the engine room for our family. As soon as anything happened she was always there for us - not only family but friends too. She was very popular.

"She was such good fun, caring and always happy and she never complained about her illness."

Mrs Hunter, who had worked as a spot welder at Teconnex in Keighley for six years before her illness, was diagnosed with liver and pancreatic cancer in January.

She was determined to press ahead with the recent fundraising night at Bradford & Bingley Sports Club, in spite of her illness.

Her family said she had been thrilled by the amount of money raised for the hospice.

Mrs Hunter's 54-year-old sister Pauline Spencer said: "She had her goals - she wanted to get things done in the house so it would be nice for Eric.

"They were all things she was planning to do but she just wanted to get on with it."

Mrs Spencer, of Ryecroft Avenue, Cottingley, added: "She was always the one who looked after everyone else and she was always apologising for having to be helped.

"Barbara was an amazing woman; really popular; really happy and a right positive person."

Mrs Hunter also leaves brothers Allen Mazey, 46; William Mazey, 52; and sister Shirley Wheatcroft, 44.

A funeral service will be held for Barbara at 12.40pm on Monday at Nabwood Crematorium.

Relatives have requested family flowers only and donations to Manorlands.
