If you are a fan of hospital dramas like Casualty or Holby City then two events organised for next week are for you.

Bradford Royal Infirmary and Airedale General Hospital near Steeton will both open their doors and invite people to take a real look behind the scenes.

Bradford holds its major showcase event on Wednesday, September 13, from 2pm to 6.30pm and Airedale's event is on Tuesday, September 12, from 4pm to 6.30pm.

For Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust it is the first time it has held an event of this kind and it is hoped to attract 1,000 visitors and encourage more people to sign up to become a member of the Foundation Trust and have a bigger say on how services are developed.

BRI and its grounds will be transformed with interactive displays, exhibits, tours of hospital areas and demonstrations. The aim of the event, called Partners in Health, is to give local people the chance to see work going on in the hospital and find out about plans to improve services in the future.

Chief executive Miles Scott said: "I am delighted to invite local people to take part in our open event. It will provide visitors with an opportunity to understand more about the services and high quality healthcare provided by the Trust.

"With some of the shortest waiting times in the country and one of the best records for patient safety, local people are right to be proud of their hospitals and we want to share information about our services."

The day will start with the Trust's annual meeting between 1.15pm and 2pm and then the open event. The hospital Oscars, which is an award scheme for unsung heroes of the Trust will be presented at 5.15pm.

One of the highlights of the event at Airedale Hospital on Tuesday is the chance to try plastering with A&E staff and see frontline staff in action.

There will be opportunities to have a go at surgery with real instruments, try a real ultrasound scan, take a health check, a tour of the kitchens, physiotherapy unit, labour suite and laundry.

There will be demonstrations of an intensive care bed, advice on diabetes and hearing screening and advice on careers in the NHS.

Visitors can also enjoy designated parking and a free supper sponsored by LHF Healthplans.
