Organisers of Bradford Race for Life have taken the “difficult decision” to merge the Saturday and Sunday events due to lack of entries.

Tesco and Cancer Research UK’s event, due to take place at Lister Park at 2pm on Saturday, June 11, is moving to either the morning or afternoon events on Sunday, June 12.

Cancer Research UK is now in the process of contacting women who have already signed up for the Saturday afternoon event to advise them of the new day and times. Jenny Key, event manager for Bradford Race for Life, said: “This is the first year that we planned to stage a Saturday afternoon event at Bradford Race for Life and we originally thought demand for places would be higher.

“As entries for the Saturday event have been much lower than we anticipated, we have taken the difficult decision to move it to Sunday. “Race for Life raises money to fund life-saving research, so we owe it to our supporters to ensure we raise as much money as possible in the most cost-efficient way.

“Changing the day will help us make savings on event costs and ensure all the women taking part experience the same unforgettable Race for Life atmosphere.

“We are very grateful to all those who have already signed up to take part and hope they will understand our decision.

“There is still time to enter Race for Life in Bradford so we hope many more women will come and join in and have a great day out – all in support of a seriously good cause.”

Race for Life is non-competitive and women-only participants can choose whether to walk, jog or run the 5k route. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour. Last year, 4,200 participants took part in Bradford and raised £187,328. This year, 2,000 women have already entered and Cancer Research UK hopes many more will follow in their footsteps.

All those who have already signed up for the Saturday afternoon event are being contacted and advised of the change. Anyone who can’t make the new time will be able to transfer to another Race for Life event. For information, call 0871 641 1111 or visit raceforlife.org
