A new Art in the Park exhibition has got it nailed.

One of the exhibits now on show at Lister Park, in Manningham, Bradford, is by Bingley steel nail sculptor Marcus Levine.

The work, his first public exhibition, is called Hung Out To Dry and has been made with 28,000 stainless steel nails supported between two giant nails – believed to be the tallest in the world standing at five metres high.

Marcus, a former pupil at Fulneck Boys School, Pudsey, said it took him eight 13-hour days and one 14-hour day to get the installation ready, and that it was touch and go because it was only two weeks ago when he finally took delivery of the vital steel panel he needed to complete it.

His thumb also took a heavy beating, but he said: “I would swap a bruised thumb for a finished sculpture any day.”

The panel appears to be stretched between the two huge nails with each of the smaller nails hammered into a pre-cut hole to different depths to give an undulating effect.

More of the artist’s work can be seen inside Cartwright Hall, including pieces from his Sense exhibition. The work can be touched so both visually impaired and sighted people can interact with it.

Historical items taken from Bradford Museums social history section’s own nail collection will be on show alongside it.

The free exhibition, on until September 25, which takes the form of a trail for visitors, includes the UK’s longest graffiti mural, painted at the University of Bradford. People can walk the perimeter of the boards to explore the work by artist Mohammed Ali, which is all about the environment.
