Pupils took part in a national project to help inspire future journalists.

A group of 31 year eight pupils from Holy Family Catholic School, Keighley, participated in this year’s BBC News School Report.

The initiative is hosted by the BBC and involves 11 to 14-year-old students from schools across the UK and other countries. The pupils are given practical experience of what it is like to research and report news.

Students’ participation was led by English teacher Martin McCorry, helped by head of the English faculty Maxine Gordon-Jarrett.

The pupils were given video cameras and notepads to research events in school. They spent six weeks creating and packaging their news material, in time for it to be published online at a website linked to the BBC’s own site.

Year eight pupil Annabelle King said: “It’s been a good experience for all of us. We’ve learned a lot of new skills.”
