A support group for people affected by head and neck cancer has been awarded a grant to help it continue with its work in Bradford.

The Croakies Support Group received cash from the Mouth Cancer Foundation at its support group awards.

The Mouth Cancer Foundation Support Awards are designed to reward the work of support groups. Richard Keen, a head and neck cancer survivor and member of The Croakies, said: “It was a real lift to the group to receive the award.”

The Croakies Head and Neck Support Group holds regular meetings at Bradford Cancer Support in Smith Lane, Bradford.

Dr Vinod Joshi, a consultant in restorative dentistry who works for Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, set up the Mouth Cancer Foundation in 2004 in order to help patients share knowledge and advice on dealing with the surgery connected to mouth cancer and the side effects it causes.

He said: “We felt that The Croakies Support Group offered the opportunity to communicate experiences, improves patient services and tackles the consequences of head and neck cancer treatments.’’
