Detectives have appealed for the public’s help to identify human remains found in a camouflaged tent near city centre shops.

The grim find was made in undergrowth off Hamm Strasse, near the junction with Canal Road – a short distance from Forster Square Retail Park.

Police believe the remains could have lain there since last summer before they were eventually found on Saturday afternoon.

A full examination of the scene was conducted on Sunday and a forensic post-mortem examination took place yesterday to try to establish the cause of death.

Police said the incident was not, at this time, believed to be suspicious but they have urged the public to help in their attempt to unravel the mystery of the dead person’s identity and what happened to them.

Detective Inspector Mark Long, of Bradford South CID, said: “Our initial investigations suggest that these are the remains of a rough sleeper, however, we are still working to confirm an identity.

“As the tent has been positioned away from the road and camouflaged by foliage, the remains are likely to have been there for some time. Having spoken with the pathologist, it is believed this could have been as far back as last summer.

“We need people’s help to bring together the circumstances which have resulted in this discovery and to work out exactly who this person is.”

Anyone with information should call Bradford South CID on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
