A major consultation is under way to find out residents’ views on proposals to build a £500 million ‘eco settlement’ between Bradford and Shipley.

Bradford Council will carry out street surveys in Shipley and Bradford city centre over the next few weekends to canvass people’s opinion on how the major scheme should take shape.

There will also be another consultation event for residents who may be affected by proposals for thousands of environmentally-friendly homes on a 100-acre swath of land in the Canal Road Corridor. Councillor David Green, Bradford Council’s executive member for regeneration and economy, said the Council was creating a masterplan, which will inform planning policy over the next 20 to 30 years.

He said: “Paramount to making the masterplan a success is making sure we actively engage with residents and businesses based in the corridor area.

“We want to positively address the day-to-day issues that are important to them – housing, schools provision, employment opportunities, transport links, health facilities and so on.”
