Police arrested nine people and seized drugs in dramatic early morning raids following a shooting incident in the district.

Homes and businesses across Keighley were raided by officers, led by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team (HMET) yesterday.

Addresses targeted included Devonshire Street, Devonshire Street West, Belgrave Road and Spencer Street.

The six men and three women remained in police custody last night for questioning about the shooting which took place on Wednesday, January 12, in Eelholme View Street, and resulted in a door being damaged by gun fire.

Officers recovered a quantity of substances, suspected to be class A drugs, in the raids, and inquiries are ongoing in the area.

Police are continuing to appeal for information about a green Lexus car, recovered from Hawkestone Drive, Keighley, on the morning of January 12, and believed to be connected to the shooting.

The car had been sold at auction in Bradford on November 27 or 28 last year and officers would like to speak to anyone who saw it being driven around the Beechcliffe area, either before or shortly after the incident, or has any information about the people inside.

Neighbourhood Policing Team officers were on high visibility patrol in the Devonshire Street area to reassure residents and keep them informed about the police action.

Superintendent Gary Baker, of Airedale and North Bradford Police, said police had made good progress in the operation.

He said: “We have arrested nine people and carried out searches in a number of areas across Keighley in connection with last week’s shooting.

“I would like to reassure residents in Keighley that we take swift action to investigate any criminal behaviour in the town and it is also very rare for firearms incidents to occur in the community.

“People can be reassured that we always do everything possible to investigate crime and our Keighley NPT staff will continue to provide a visible presence on the streets.

“Anyone with any concerns, or information, should contact their local ward officer.”

Anyone with information about the green Lexus, or the people using it, are urged to call Homicide and Major Enquiry Team Six, on (01924) 334613.
