Colin Todd today insisted there will be no Damion Stewart-style scenario with Jamaican winger Jermaine Johnson.

The flying Reggae Boy has been an instant success at Valley Parade with his explosive pace - illustrated with his 60-yard dash to score the fourth goal against Gillingham.

Already some fans are worried that City could end up losing Johnson like Stewart, who joined QPR in the summer. The Bantams wanted to keep the defender for another year but his Caribbean club held the player registration.

But Todd stressed that is not the case with Johnson because he is not on loan.

He said: "Jermaine is our player. We signed him on a year's contract and own his registration. The club he was at in Jamaica (Tivoli Gardens) only had him to the end of their season so we haven't got to worry about a repeat of what happened with Stewart. We are in the driving seat with Jermaine."

Johnson got a reputation for inconsistency during his first spell in England with Bolton and Oldham. Bristol City boss Gary Johnson, who had the winger on trial at Yeovil, claimed that he would be a force in home games - implying he might struggle when the going gets tougher.

Todd added: "I think that's a bit harsh. I don't think any of my players are "homers".

"Jermaine has got to keep his foot on the accelerator. That goal on Saturday gives him more confidence but he must not get to the stage where he just thinks things will happen.

"He had the problem in England last time because he totally switched off and thought he had made it.

"But we've already seen that he is a player who can be a match-winner."
