Scores of students occupied a management floor at the University of Bradford tonight to protest against Government plans to raise tuition fees.
The action in the Richmond Building took place after students at the university held an emergency meeting to discuss proposed cuts to higher education.
Shelley King, 22, ethics, environment and welfare officer at the university’s Students’ Union, who took part in the protest, said about 70 students were involved. She said university vice-chancellor Professor Mark Cleary, who attended the meeting, had told students he was against the proposed rise in tuition fees.
Miss King added: “We want to make a statement that we are against the cuts to higher education, against the cuts to public services and against cuts that will have a negative impact on society.
“We are putting pressure on MP David Ward to vote against the fees rise on Thursday.”
