A Bradford charity raised more than £10,000 to help it continue its work with disadvantaged children and young people across the district.

One in a Million raised the money at its Stars Awards 2010 through donations, a silent auction and a game of heads and tails.

Auction items included a pair of boxing gloves signed by Muhammed Ali and Joe Frazier, a football boot signed by Lionel Messi and a signed photo display of former Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher.

The event, at Bradford Grammar School’s Price Hall, featured awards presented by guests including Bradford City manager Peter Taylor, former Bantams manager Stuart McCall and City legend John Hendrie. Wayne Jacobs, co-founder of the charity and assistant manager at Bradford City, said: “A huge thank-you must go to our supporters who created a memorable evening.

“It was truly humbling to see what our award winners have contributed to their own and others lives. We make the young people of Bradford feel valued and they have proved that they are all One in a Million.”

The evening’s top award, the One in a Million outstanding contribution award, was presented to Rob Carr and his family, who won a family holiday.

Other awards went to Tom Moon (volunteer of the year), Mursleen Akhtar (athletics young person of the year) and Matty Brannan (community football young person of the year).
