Senior council and police chiefs have signed a commitment to tackle gender violence in Bradford.

The Bradford Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy was endorsed at City Hall yesterday by the Council’s deputy leader Councillor Imran Hussain and Inspector Karen Ferris.

It marked the International Day Against Violence Against Women.

In their strategy, the Council and partner agencies set out a vision to cut gender violence through education, raising awareness, support and protection for victims, by bringing perpetrators to justice and by reducing re-offending.

Gender violence covers sexual assault, rape, serious injury and murder.

Coun Hussain said: “Gender violence has deep and wide ranging impacts on individuals, families and communities, and Bradford has some of the best services in the country.”
