Business-people are being urged to help a Bradford charity fight for the rights of Pakistan’s flood victims at a boxing event in the city.

Basic Human Rights (BHR) is launching its winter survival appeal for children left destitute by the floods which hit the country this summer.

Appearing at the networking event will be seven boxers, including Bradford’s former world champion Junior Witter.

People who attend will be able to try their luck in the ring against the boxers, if their training schedules allow.

Anjum Tahirkheli, who set up BHR from her Bingley home, said: “The boxers themselves got in touch with us and said they wanted to do something for the flood victims.

“It is absolutely freezing in Pakistan at the moment. Bits of twig and paper are all there is sheltering some people.”

Junior Witter said: “It is a horrendous situation. Every-one should come along as every little bit helps.”

Speakers on the night include boxing trainer Brendan Ingle, chief executive officer at the Muhammed Ali Centre in the US Greg Roberts and comedian Charlie Hale.

Everyone is welcome to the event, which is aimed at businessmen and women, at the Cedar Court Hotel, Mayo Avenue, on Wednesday, December 1, from 6.30pm.
