The festive season arrived like a bolt from the blue in Otley this evening.
Leeds Rhinos mascot Ronnie the Rhino had the honour of switching on the town’s new blue Christmas lights, assisted by Otley mayor councillor Ray Smith, the Carnival Queen, the Otley Lions and Father Christmas.
And traders were also celebrating after more than 70 firms around the town stepped up to back a campaign to install mini Christmas trees around the town, all adorned with the eye-catching blue lights. The idea is to brighten up the town to attract more shoppers and the blue lights were favoured instead of white, and the town’s older multi-coloured lights.
The ceremony was accompanied by carols sung by the pupils of Whartons Primary School and music from Wharfe Brass.
