Police found a sub-machine gun, a sawn-off shotgun and ammunition hidden behind the bath panel in a Bradford house, a jury heard.

Officers searching the property in Harrogate Avenue, Undercliffe, also seized cocaine and cannabis with a combined street value of more than £4,500. Waheed Rehman, 27, who owns the house, and Faiz Rehman, 25, of Rylstone Gardens, Undercliffe, plead not guilty to six charges relating to the possession of drugs, guns and ammunition.

They deny possessing cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply on January 10, 2008.

The men also plead not guilty to possessing a Mac 10 automatic sub-machine gun, a smooth bore sawn-off shotgun, ammunition for use in the machine gun and ammunition without a firearms certificate.

Prosecutor Edward Renvoize told Bradford Crown Court yesterday the house appeared to be unoccupied. It was unfurnished and there was a build-up of mail, some addressed to Waheed Rehman.

Mr Renvoize said the Crown’s case was that the defendants were using the house to store drugs and guns. He told the jury that Faiz Rehman’s fingerprints were found on a bag containing gun cartridges.

Both men were arrested that day and declined to comment when interviewed by the police.

Faiz Rehman later told officers in a prepared statement he had been to the property to help tidy it up.

Mr Renvoize said it was an agreed fact Waheed Rehman was the registered owner of the house.

The trial continues.
