An exciting programme of Christmas festivities will spark into life in Keighley tomorrow night when the town’s lights are switched on.

The big switch-on at 6.30pm will herald the start of the town’s winter fun, including the setting up of an outdoor ice rink in Church Green and the start of late night shopping at Airedale Shopping Centre, Keighley Market and other businesses across the town. After the lights are switched on, Pulse radio‘s breakfast show presenter Becky Holmes will lead the entertainment.

Joining the crowds in Church Green will be rugby players from the Keighley Cougars, who will be giving away prizes. The following weekend will see Keighley’s Ice Weekend on December 4 and 5, between 11am and 6pm, when people will be invited to try out the temporary outdoor ice rink.

As part of the ice theme, visitors will be able to watch ice art skills and take up the challenge of discovering a trail of ice sculptures by the internationally-renowned Jamie Wardley.

There will also be a Christmas Fair, with a chance to try mulled wine and a hog roast, and to buy seasonal gifts from charitable organisations.

Town centre manager Philip Smith said: “The switch on is a great event and always attracts large numbers to join in the fun and get into the festive spirit.”
