A teenager who stabbed her former boyfriend in a fit of rage has been locked up for three-and-a-half years.

Student Daniella Brook knifed Cameron Rooke in the chest and arm after their relationship ended.

Mr Rooke was Brook’s first long-term boyfriend and she felt he was not listening to her after their break-up, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Brook, 18, of Brookwater Drive, Shipley, pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Rooke with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm on April 18.

The court was told the couple were in a relationship for 20 months. When it ended they stayed in touch and arranged to meet. But Brook had armed herself with a penknife and asked Mr Rooke to go into the kitchen.

She slammed the door, grabbed him by his shirt and stabbed him twice in the arm and once in the chest.

His injuries were not life-threatening but he suffered blood loss and told the court he still had nightmares about the attack.

Brook’s solicitor advocate Peter Byrne said she suffered from mental health problems and was terrified at the thought of being locked up. Urging the judge to impose a community-based penalty Mr Byrne said his client was a vulnerable woman whose life was now stable and she was continuing with her education.

Recorder Julian Goose QC said Brook, who suffered from depression and mood swings, was having to cope with the end of her first meaningful relationship but it was a premeditated attack, prompted by jealousy.

Brook took the knife to the meeting, asked Mr Rooke into the kitchen, opened the blade and stabbed him.

The judge told Brook she would serve her sentence in a Young Offender Institution and be released at the half way point.
