A 36-year-old Bradford man was last night charged with the murder of his wife.

He was due to appear before Bradford magistrates this morning.

The battered woman was found at the family home, an end-terraced house in Thorn Street, Girlington, Bradford, at about 10.40pm on Monday after relatives attended the property and raised the alarm.

The victim was suffering from serious head injuries and died a short time later.

She is believed to be a mother-of-three, of Pakistani origin, but police have not released her name because some relatives in Pakistan and are not yet aware of her death.

The results of a post-mortem examination, carried out by a Home Office forensic pathologist on Tuesday evening were disclosed yesterday.

The findings revealed the woman had died from head injuries.

It is understood a weapon was used to hit the victim during the fatal assault, but police have declined to comment on that aspect of the death.

The 36-year-old man, understood to be the dead woman’s husband, was arrested at the scene soon after the discovery.

He was held at a Bradford police question for questioning by murder squad detectives throughout yesterday.

Officers applied to magistrates yesterday morning and were granted an extension to the length of time they could hold the suspect for questioning.

The murder investigation is being led by Detective Superintendent Chris Thompson, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.

Neighbours have paid tribute to the dead woman, who is understood to have lived at the address with her husband and their three young children aged under eight.
