Eccleshill NHS Treatment Centre has relaunched its day-surgery and is offering a new one stop service.

Once referred by their GP, patients can be diagnosed, using on-site diagnostic department and be pre-assessed in one appointment without the need for multiple visits to the centre.

This new process has been launched by Care UK, the new operator of the centre, and will see most patients leave the centre with an appointment date for surgery, if required.

New general manager, Patricia Warwick, said "It's great news that the day-surgery facility has relaunched and we are able to provide this exceptional service, which can cut down on waiting times and improve the patient experience".

One patient who has benefited from the system is 75-year-old John Robinson, of Park Road, Eccleshill, who was one of the first surgery patients to be operated on at the treatment centre following its re-opening under Care UK.

He had sought advice from his GP for a trigger finger problem and was referred to Eccleshill with a view to surgery.

Within four days he had an appointment with consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Sampathkumar and after pre-operative tests to assess Mr Robinson's suitability for surgery, he was booked in for the procedure.

He said: "I couldn't believe how fast and efficiently everything had been arranged, the whole experience was quick easy and hassle free, just over five weeks from start to finish.

"Each and every member of staff, from receptionist to surgeon, really made me feel at ease. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was explained to me in detail.

"Upon discharge I was given a 24-hour helpline number and the next day a nurse rang to check everything was ok.

"I could not have had any better service if I had gone to Harley Street."

The centre benefits from a close working relationship with the local NHS and consultant surgeons from Bradford Royal Infirmary also work there, providing a range of NHS services including endoscopy, general surgery, gastroenterology, gynaecology, orthopaedic and urology.

The centre also has its own X-ray, MRI, ultrasound and CT scanners to provide direct access diagnostics to GPs and their patients without the need for an additional hospital appointment.
