Tributes have been paid to a “selfless” and “tireless” road safety campaigner who has died aged 79.
Audrey Cartwright, who was made an Honorary Citizen of Otley in 2007, died in hospital after suffering a stroke. She had been actively involved in road safety education for more than 50 years.
Pool Parish Council chairman and fellow road safety committee member Councillor Hazel Lee said: “Audrey will be so sadly missed. She was such a lovely lady.”
And Otley Mayor Councillor Ray Smith said: “I was saddened to hear the news about Audrey, who dedicated so much of her life to the service of others.”
Otley Lib Dem MP Greg Mulholland said: “This is a huge loss to Otley.”
Her funeral service will be at Otley All Saints Parish Church at 11.15am on Friday, October 1.
