A community furniture store is celebrating its tenth anniversary.

The Furniture Shop opened as a small venture on The Parade in Broadstone Way, Holme Wood, and expanded into larger premises previously occupied by the Co-op.

“We used to get furniture in church, people used to give us furniture but we couldn’t get into church because there was so much furniture in the lobby so we opened the little shop and it did really well,” explains Canon Gordon Dey, vicar of St Christopher’s Church.

The shop’s success led to its expansion into the former Co-op store where it is celebrating a decade in business with special offers this week.

The shop is run by volunteers and proceeds from furniture sales are ploughed back into community initiatives on the estate such as the Good Neighbour Project.
