The two protests in Bradford city centre dispersed late afternoon.

Following surges of English Defence League protesters against the police cordon on the Urban Garden, followed by missile throwing after some EDL members gained access to the Broadway building site, police began to move the protesters' coaches to the site and to funnel them away.

The We Are Bradford/Unite Against Fascism counter-protest on Exchange Square finished its good-natured event with songs and speeches from the organisers.

As the events drew to a close police in riot gear took up positions at the major intersections in the city centre.

There were reports that there had been some confrontations between crowds outside the EDL cordon and police.

It is thought that anti-EDL protesters from Birmingham and Manchester had swollen the crowd. Police moved the crowds further up Manor Row as the EDL protesters were escorted to their transport.
