A Bradford artist is exploring the darker side of fairytales in her new exhibition.
The display, by Jessica Beattie, whose work has been exhibited in Paris and London, runs at Bradford Playhouse until Tuesday.
Jessica, who is studying fashion and textiles at Bath Spa University, aims to push the boundaries of textile art, exploring darker themes of family life and fairy tales, the gothic and the grotesque.
“The exhibition is a collection of my best work from the past year,” said Jessica.
“The focus is on storytelling. Seemingly innocuous family heirlooms like a quilt and cushion reveal, on closer inspection, that what we inherit from our family is not all we would choose to.
“The final piece is drawings that re-invent fairytales, such as Hansel and Gretel.
“I decided to showcase my work in my hometown of Bradford because of its textile heritage.”
